Opening Times
- 8.00am- 6.00pm daily, 50 weeks of the year.
- Half day sessions: 8.00am-1.00pm or 1.00pm-6.00pm
- Full day sessions: 8.00am-6.00pm
0-2 Provision
Barnwell Daycare is registered to care for babies up until they are 2 years old. Our staff to child ratio is one staff member to three children. Our baby room is calm, warm and stimulating, filled with a wide variety of exciting activities to keep babies involved in their learning and early experiences.
2-3 Provision
We offer fee paying places alongside free, eligible two year old places.
Children from two to five access the same learning environment which is implemented to ensure each child can learn and develop from their own starting point.
Families must be in receipt of specific benefits to be eligible for a place. The free childcare place can be accessed the term after their 2nd birthday. Applications can be accessed from Daycare. Please bring along your child’s full birth certificate. The eligibility checks shall be carried out by Sunderland City Council’s Family Information Service. If eligible, families can receive 15 hours a week, term time only.
There are three intakes of children per school year; September, January and April.
3-5 Provision
We offer fee paying places alongside free eligible three year old places.
Children from two to five access the same learning environment; however learning is differentiated for all individual children.
All 3 to 4-year olds can receive 15 hours free early education per year. This is taken over 38 weeks of the year (term time only). Additional sessions may be purchased weekly all year round. The free childcare place can be accessed the term after their 3rd birthday.
Some working parents may be eligible for 30 hours provision. Information and eligibility can be found on the Government Childcare website- click here to find out more.

Wrap Around Care
Children accessing their education at Barnwell Academy may also access fee paying wrap around childcare facilities up until the age of five.
The wrap around service provides care before and after their school day. These may vary depending on your child’s school times.

Breakfast Club and Out of School Club facilities are also available within Barnwell Academy. Please contact the school office for more information.
School Holiday Information
Families may access fee paying childcare facilities here at Barnwell Daycare throughout the school holidays. Daycare is registered to provide childcare for children up until the term after their 5th birthday.
Daycare Fees
Please note our Daycare fees, as of 1st September 2023, please see the below table:

Fees include all meals, drinks and snacks prepared by our in-house catering team.

- Late collection fee: £6.00
30 hours funded places
Meals are not included in 30 hours funded places at Barnwell Daycare. Our meal costs will be:
- Lunch charges: £2.60
- Tea: £2.00
- Full Day meal charge: £4.00
