Barnwell Academy

Safeguarding

Barnwell Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure concerns are discussed with parents/carers first unless we have reasons to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Operation Encompass

Barnwell Academy is committed to working with all multi-agencies to ensure all children are safe and are committed to the Operation Encompass project. The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in a domestic abuse incident. Please find more information about Operation Encompass below.

Sunderland Safeguarding Partnership

The Sunderland Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) is a multi-agency partnership which brings together agencies who work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people across Sunderland. The aim of the partnership is to coordinate what is done by each body represented on the board, and ensuring the effectiveness of that work. Ultimately in doing our job at the SSCP we want to make a positive difference to children, young people, their families and their communities through our work in partnership.

Within the Partnership there are three statutory safeguarding partners:

  • Sunderland City Council
  • North East and North Cumbria NHS
  • Northumbria Police.

These three agencies are responsible for developing the multi-agency safeguarding arrangements (MASA) for the city that will guide how they will work together, and with other relevant agencies, to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
